Course Information

Course Objectives: Over the course of the following semester, we will examine through the use of themes the different influences and diverging forces that have shaped various areas of the world. Students will be guided through the various components of the new Global Studies Regents: multiple-choice items, document-based questions and thematic essays.

Performance Standards: The course will be aligned to the Social Studies standards with particular emphasis on Standards 2 & 3

Standard 2. World History: Students will use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of major ideas, eras, themes, developments, and turning points in world history and examine the broad sweep of history from a variety of perspectives.

Standard 3. Geography: Students will use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of the geography of the independent world in which we live – local, national and global – including the distribution of people, places, and environments over the world=s surface.

Assessment Measures: A variety of assessment measures will be used and will include regular tests, quizzes, projects, class attendance and participation.

Behavioral Expectations

  • No hats or Doo Rags worn
  • No electronic devices i.e.: music players, ipods, and cellular phones
  • Demonstrate respect for self and others
  • Request a hall pass to be excused during class
  • Profanity must not be used and will not be tolerated
  • Respond appropriately to requests of all school staff and myself
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries among staff and peers
  • Demonstrate self-control

Academic Expectations

  • Demonstrate respect for education and learning
  • Focus attention toward instruction
  • Transport instructional supplies daily
  • Maintain adequate school supplies
  • Complete all assignments including homework daily
  • Arrive on time prepared to work
  • Group work is not optional I expect all students to participate and contribute
  • An 81/2 by 11’”, binder, hole puncher, and folder

As a student attending Information Technology High School, you are committed to the values, vision, and ideals represented in Mr. Serrao’s class rules.
